Dan Azeez Looks to Avenge Amateur Loss in Bout Against Unbeaten Lewis Edmondson

Dan Azeez enters Saturday’s showdown against Lewis Edmondson with a personal vendetta, eager to avenge a split-decision defeat from their amateur days. The bout, taking place at the Copper Box Arena in London and broadcast live on Sky Sports, is part of the undercard leading up to Adam Azim’s highly anticipated fight against Ohara Davies.

Azeez, 35, from London, boasts a professional record of 20 wins, one draw, and one loss, while Hampshire’s Edmondson remains unbeaten at 9-0. Despite the disparity in professional experience, the memory of their amateur clash is driving Azeez.

“He beat me in the amateurs, a split decision,” Azeez told Sky Sports. “He was the better boxer back then, more technical, while I was more of a come-forward fighter with grit. But the pros are different—you’re trying to hurt, break someone down, not just score points.”

Azeez’s Determination to Settle the Score

The loss from their amateur days has stuck with Azeez, and he’s eager for the opportunity to settle the score in the professional ranks. “I’ve always got a vendetta against people who beat me in the amateurs,” Azeez explained. “If I get the chance to fight them, I’m more than happy.”

The fight also comes at a critical juncture for Azeez, whose recent form has been a mixed bag. His most recent fight ended in a draw against Croatian Hrvoje Sep in June—a fight he described as an “awful performance,” especially as it followed his first professional loss in February to Joshua Buatsi.

“I got sucked into proving I was tougher instead of focusing on winning,” Azeez admitted. “Mentally, I wasn’t there. But boxing is always a learning experience, and I’m happy to have had a competitive fight rather than an easy one.”

Edmondson Hungry for a Statement Win

Azeez knows that Lewis Edmondson will be equally motivated. The unbeaten 9-0 fighter sees this as his chance to make a name for himself against a more experienced opponent. “I know he’s coming in hungry, prepared,” Azeez said. “He probably thinks this is his time, that I’m on the way down. I’m here to show that’s not the case.”

For Azeez, this fight represents an opportunity to return to form and re-establish himself in the light-heavyweight division. A victory against Edmondson would help him bounce back from the disappointment of his recent draw and put him “back in the mix” for bigger opportunities.

“It puts me back to where I want to be—back in the ‘W’ column first of all,” Azeez said.

What’s at Stake

Both fighters have plenty on the line. For Azeez, it’s a chance to prove that his career is far from on the decline. For Edmondson, it’s an opportunity to announce himself on the big stage by beating an experienced and battle-tested opponent.

As fight night approaches, the stakes couldn’t be higher for either man. Tune in on Saturday to see who comes out on top as Dan Azeez seeks redemption and Lewis Edmondson looks to keep his unbeaten streak alive.
