Matt Wallace chats exclusively to Sky Sports Golf Podcast, talking through how disappointment of 2018 is driving him to make 2025 Ryder Cup; The 34 -year-old has never previously participated at a Ryder Cup

Matt Wallace, fresh off his dramatic playoff win at the European Masters, has set his sights on securing a place in the 2025 Ryder Cup.

The 34- year-old Londoner, who has yet to participate in golf’s most prestigious team event, is driven by the disappointment of missing out in 2018. Wallace is determined to make his mark this time around, using both his recent success and experience on the PGA Tour to bolster his chances.

In an exclusive interview on the Sky Sports Golf Podcast, Wallace shared how the frustration of not being selected in 2018 continues to motivate him. Reflecting on that year, Wallace recalled, “I remember missing out then, and Dave McNeilly, my caddie at the time, told me, ‘We’re in.’ But in the end, we didn’t make it, and I couldn’t quite understand why.”

At the time, the team had opted for experienced Ryder Cup veterans like Sergio Garcia, and Wallace now understands the reasoning behind it. “I hadn’t competed consistently against the top players back then, and it would have been a bit of a risk for captain Thomas Bjorn to pick me. I missed the cut at the French Open, which didn’t help either,” he explained.

However, Wallace has since matured as a player and believes his strong performances on the PGA Tour, including a third-place finish at the 2019 PGA Championship at Bethpage, have prepared him to handle the pressure. “I’ve played against the best players in the world for the past five years, and I’m not afraid of the challenge. I’m ready for the fight, and this time, there are no excuses.

“With significant changes to the Ryder Cup qualification process, Wallace is confident his recent European Masters win and continued success can propel him onto the team. The new streamlined qualification system, which started at the British Masters, aims to ensure a fairer selection process, which Wallace believes works in his favor.”Making the Ryder Cup team has been a career-long goal of mine,” Wallace said. “The emotion of being part of the best sporting event in the world is something I deeply want to experience. I’ve worked hard, and I feel like I have the mentality and skill to compete at the highest level in the U.S.

“As Wallace looks ahead to the 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black, he remains focused on his form and determination to achieve his goal. “I just want to make it. I’ve come a long way, and I believe I’m ready for anything that comes my way.
